Layer-by-layer nanoparticles for delivery of immunotherapeutic agents
Layer-by-layer nanoparticles are versatile drug targeting and delivery vehicles. Recent developments in cancer therapy have shown promising clinical results by modulating the immune system against cancer (treatment modality known as immunotherapy). The success of check-point inhibitor drugs is an example of the potency of this treatment. Other potent agents for immunotherapy may be cytokines given their role as signaling molecules that modify the response of immune cells. Unfortunately, systemic delivery of cytokines is toxic; consequently, restricting their clinical use. My project aims to design layer-by-layer nanoparticles for controlled delivery of these immunotherapeutic agents or combinations thereof.
